Personalized Tourist Route Generation

When tourists are at a destination, they typically search for information in the Local Tourist Organizations. There, the staff determines the profile of the tourists and their restrictions. Combining this information with their up-to-date knowledge about the local attractions and public transportation, they suggest a personalized route for the tourist agenda. Finally, they fine tune up this route to better fit tourists’ needs. This paper presents an intelligent routing system to fulfill the same task, dividing the process in three steps: recommendation, route generation and route customization. It models the tourist planning problem, integrating public transportation, and presents an heuristic able to solve it on real-time. First, the application provides a list of recommended POI’s from which the user chooses. This information is combined with restrictions (time, monetary, etc.), data on the POI, and transportation data to create personalized tourist routes. Finally, users are able to customize the route, reordering, removing, adding, etc. to their needs. A prototype was created for the city of San Sebastian, Spain.

Quando i turisti visitano una destinazione, in genere ricercano informazioni nelle organizzazioni turistiche locali. Lì, il personale determina il profilo dei turisti e cerca di suggerire un percorso personalizzato alle loro esigenze. Questo articolo presenta un sistema di "routing intelligent" per compiere la stessa operazione, dividendo il processo in tre fasi: raccomandazione, creazione e personalizzazione del percorso. Si modella cosi una pianificazione turistica che deve prendere in considerazione tutti i servizi utili ad una buona programmazione. In primo luogo, l'applicazione fornisce un elenco di POI dal quale l'utente può scegliere il suo punto da raggiungere. Questa informazione è combinata con vari dati quali tempo, costi dei servizi e ulteriori dati relativi al POI. Infine, gli utenti sono in grado di personalizzare il percorso, togliendo e aggiungendo dati utili alle loro esigenze. Un prototipo è stato creato per la città di San Sebastian in Spagna, come dimostra il presente articolo.
